-
What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy for trauma and PTSD. It helps your brain process traumatic memories so they become less distressing. Many clients find relief faster than with traditional talk therapy alone.
-
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or struggling with past trauma, therapy can help. I offer free consultations so we can discuss your needs and determine if we're a good fit—no pressure, just conversation.
-
What therapy services do you provide for women?
I provide individual therapy for adult women in New Jersey and Florida. My specialties include anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, bipolar disorder, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Sessions are designed for women who want to heal, grow, and strengthen their self-awareness.
-
Do you specialize in trauma therapy and EMDR?
Yes. I specialize in trauma therapy for women and often use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based treatment for processing traumatic experiences. EMDR can help reduce emotional distress and free you from being stuck in past patterns.
-
What is your approach to therapy?
My therapy approach is client-centered, culturally affirming, and trauma-informed. I integrate EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused strategies to support meaningful change.
-
Do you provide culturally sensitive therapy?
Yes. My approach is culturally affirming and trauma-informed. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where women can explore how culture, identity, and lived experience affect emotional well-being.
-
What makes your practice culturally affirming?
As a Black woman and LCSW, I understand the unique experiences of BIPOC women navigating racism, microaggressions, and systemic oppression. You won't need to code-switch or explain your cultural context—I get it, and this space is designed for you.
-
Why do you specialize in therapy for BIPOC women?
BIPOC women often face unique challenges, including racial trauma, discrimination, and the intersection of race and gender identity. My practice provides culturally affirming therapy that acknowledges and addresses these lived experiences within the healing process.
-
Why does working with a BIPOC therapist matter?
Having a BIPOC therapist can help create a deeper sense of understanding and trust. I recognize the cultural, social, and historical factors that impact women of color, and many clients find it easier to connect with a therapist who shares or understands these experiences.
-
What should I expect in my first therapy session?
The first session is an opportunity to share what brings you to therapy, your personal history, and your goals. It’s also a chance for us to see if we’re a good fit. Together, we’ll begin creating a plan for your healing journey.
-
What happens during a therapy session?
Each therapy session is tailored to your needs. We’ll begin by discussing what’s been happening in your life, focusing on any urgent concerns. Together, we’ll explore patterns, develop coping strategies, and build tools to support your mental health journey.
-
How long are therapy sessions and how often do we meet?
Each therapy session lasts 53 minutes (the standard clinical hour). Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic foundation. As you make progress and feel more stable, we may transition to biweekly sessions based on your needs and goals. Session frequency is flexible and collaborative—we'll regularly check in about what's working and adjust as needed. For trauma-focused work like EMDR, consistent weekly sessions often produce the best results. My priority is finding a rhythm that supports your healing while fitting into your life and schedule.
-
How long does therapy take?
It varies by person and goals. Some clients see improvement in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll check in regularly about your progress and adjust as needed.
-
Who do you work with in your therapy practice?
I primarily work with women, including BIPOC women and women from diverse cultural and personal backgrounds. My clients are often high-functioning but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected.
-
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your sessions are private and protected by law. I will explain confidentiality and its limits during our first session so you fully understand your rights.
